Getting Themselves Ready

It's the day before they leave; predictably, they are scampering around tying up loose ends. With the help of Himself's memory and Herself's list, they are on track for a successful departure sometime before lunch tomorrow.

It's a trip that's been in the making for 5 years at least. They've wanted to head west with the camper, and with sons and families in Kansas and Reno, the time is right. They were sidelined by Covid (twice), $4.50 gas, and a bout of conscience regarding sustainability. Now there is a potential buyer for the Airstream in Kansas so the stars are aligned.

If it sells they have camping gear at the ready and the camper trip will turn into a truck camping excursion. Or a minivan trip if they unload the truck too. All of this is taxing Herself's limited capacity for flexibility while playing right into Himself's desire to be as unencumbered by a plan as possible.

Herself has piles all over the house, waiting anxiously to get it packed away. Does she have enough layers for the odd cold day? Does she have every piece of sports equipment she'll need? What about extra batteries? Is this the right cooler to bring? What about an extra sleeping pad in case an air mattress goes flat? Is there room for the knitting bag?

Himself will toss his underwear in a bag in the morning and not lose a minutes sleep over packing. So it has been for almost 40 years. He assures her (again) that there are stores between here and wherever they are going. His patience is most appreciated.
